On Monday, Jamaul and I did a performance art piece, Altared, at the Image Factory Art Foundation in Belize City. The performance was the closing of Katie Numi Usher’s LAB2, a two-week installation in the gallery featuring different rotating works. We were honored to have our work alongside many other Belizean artists and creators, and it was an incredible experience. It was intense and healing. The photo above is from the shoot we did the previous day with Tanisha, who is visiting from New York. Here are some more photos from the shoot at Jamaul’s house.
It has been a while since I performed, and this is a piece that Jamaul and I conceived many years ago. It explores ritual and grounding and finding one’s center amid chaos. We are hoping to extend this work into a series. You can find the video of the performance as well as the other work in LAB2 here.
