2017: Choosing Connection

After returning from New York, I’ve been spending the past week sleeping late, reading my new book (Swing Time by Zadie Smith), doing yoga asanas and meditating, with a little work sprinkled in. Holding, Healing, Releasing: Full Moon In Taurus

I spent the weekend at home writing a research report about the needs of lesbian and bisexual women in Belize. It took a tremendous amount of effort. For days since the election results I couldn’t find the mental or emotional energy to do much beyond the basics. But yesterday I was grateful to have that report to focus on. Within And Without: Finding Balance In Work & Life

One of the reasons I moved to Belize was because I wanted a slower pace. Living in my hometown of New York, where it felt like every minute needed to be scheduled, had worn me out. Between working to pay bills, finding time to spend with the people I love and taking care of my own needs, it all seemed to be one big rush, and never enough time to really enjoy my life. The Road: Healing, Process & New Moon In Taurus

Last night it poured, a heavy, steady rain, bringing relief from the intense heat we’ve had here in Belize during the hottest time of the year. I woke up this morning to quiet drizzle and the smell of cooling earth. As I sat outside drinking coffee on the wooden bench in front of my apartment, I noticed how much greener and lush the plants and trees looked, replenished and restored. I’m feeling this shift into rainy season, slow and subtle. It signals the arrival of a new cycle, carrying with it a freshness of perspective.
